Changes to Golden Age Excellence Radio

From now on I'll mix whatever songs I want on the Golden Age Excellence show. That doesn't mean you'll hear Lil Wayne or Drake on the regular but I'll definitely play songs from the 2000's, 2010's etc ...not just 90's stuff. Why? I guess we're definitely missing out on new(er) music. By the way new show is coming soon. Stay tuned.

Verbal Imagery EP Review

I haven't reviewed anything in a while (I don't work for illmuzik.com anymore, let's leave it at that). Anyways a few weeks ago my man Gene Flo hit me up and asked if I could review his crew's latest EP. Verbal Imagery is composed of Golden Griffin (emcee), Gene Flo (emcee, producer). The album is simply called 'Verbal Imagery EP'. Now time for the review.

1.Square Peg Round Hole (4.5 out of 5 Very Good)
You'll quickly recognize that string sample, nevertheless it's well utilized. Golden Griffin delivers a strong performance on the mic.

2.Back Room (4 out of 5 Good)
Another obvious sample over swingy preemo-type drums. Feeling the powerful bassline. Lyric-wise it's all about bragging rights.

3.Don't Front (3.5 out of 5 Fair)
The keys are somewhat annoying but decent drums and cuts.

4.Drop Science (5 out of 5 Classic)
Nice flip of classic sample and solid battle rhymes.

5.Lingo & Lifestyle (4 out of 5 Good)
The keys are quite mysterious here and the drums knocks.

6.Far From Home (2.5 out of 5 Average)
Meh .... that party-oriented track seems forced. The only thing I like about it is the occasional switch up.

7.Mass Attack feat. Khai Sharrieff (4 out of 5 Good)
The melancholic piano sample's cool and the rough-voiced guest delivers a strong performance.

8.Hollow Point Rhymes (4 out of 5 Good)
This tracks definitely evokes sadness .Nice string sample and hard drums.

9.Days Ago (3.5 out of 5 Fair)
Your typical "back in the day / my city's the best , etc ..." song. Not bad but those mediocre synths are kind of ruining the track.

Conclusion: A solid effort from a promising crew which somewhat reminds me of Dilated Peoples.

Final Score: 4 / 5
